Flutura Berbati Zana, who leads the Department for Legal Services within the Free Legal Aid Agency,
recently met with representatives from our organization. Through her work, she is facilitating a pathway
to justice for Kosovo citizens in need, making a real impact in people's lives.
Here are the key points discussed during the meeting:
– The Free Legal Aid initiative began in 2001.
– In 2006, the Legal Aid Commission (KPP) was established under UNMIK Regulation 2006/36 on legal
aid.
– In 2012, in accordance with Law No. 04/L017 on free legal aid, the Agency for Free Legal Aid (ABPP)
was founded.
– Currently, there are 21 offices across Kosovo, with plans for 10 more. The office in North Mitrovica was
previously part of the old Municipality; however, due to recent events and the unstable political
situation, it has been relocated. Nevertheless, a staff member is available and operates on-call or by
appointment.
– The agency expressed readiness for any form of collaboration, especially considering our
representation from the Serbian community and a network of organizations for people with disabilities.
They highlighted a low response rate among the Serbian community and expressed interest in
promoting their services.
– It was agreed that we would extend invitations to the agency for any events we organize, upon which
they will send representatives.
– Additionally, it was agreed that we would convey details from the meeting to network members,
allowing end-users to draft necessary actions requiring agency assistance.
We look forward to fostering a fruitful collaboration with the Free Legal Aid Agency to better serve the
needs of our community.
